TURKEY BOWL !!!

It was a beautiful day.

But it became a bit gloomy as intrepid souls and snow flurries met on the pitch.
(Please excuse the photography)

Regardless, goalposts were established.
"What are the humans doing?"

"Running aimlessly around the field?"
Why no, dear bird.  Though to most avians, the motions of the humans would appear aimless, there is in fact some purpose to the movements on the pitch in Rochester's Maplewood Park.  Even to most humans, and particularly to most human soccer players, their motions appear random.  However, this is actually a fine example of the beautiful game.  And not just any game...this is the Turkey Bowl!  First played long ago, a mere 3 years after the establishment of a filmy northeastern company, this noontime tradition has been celebrated the day before Thanksgiving without fail each year.  I'm proud to say that 2013 was no exception!

"No, see the ball?  It's a soccer game!"

Ball in the air!

Playing defense.

Failing the intelligence test, some of the members expose tender flesh.

Who uses a white ball on a snow-covered field?

Off to the races.
Arnoldo, the snowman.

Thank goodness for the yellow house imparting some color to the scene.

Swing your partner, Do-Si-Do.
There may be a soccer ball between these two.
I'm not sure.

More defense.

After scoring a goal, this deranged individual
threw his shirt in the air and made a celebratory snow angel.

Sanity returned swiftly after the encounter with the sobering cold.

A good time was had by all.

Even the goalkeeper.

The assembled crew posed for a 2-team photo.

And posed again.

And again.
See you next year!

PS...If nothing else, playing a game in the abrasive snow makes for a really clean pair of cleats!
